Absolutely. We fought the British for, among other things, taxation without represention. We are giving other countries representation without taxation.

Unless we have a CRITICAL national security issue, we should stay out of conflicts. The money would be better spent in our private sector.

Let's look at the Israeli/Palestinian conflict as an example. Don't you think the time and resources of our elected representatives and budget is disproportionately larger than the benefit (if any) reaped by the American people? How does a dental hygenist in Gulfport, MS benefit? How does a bank teller in Omaha or a car salesman in Newport benefit?

The Israelis and Palestinians have a much greater self-interest in striking a mutual peace agreement than we do. Look at the result of our involvement - they still hate each other. Perhaps they would be further along in the process without our hampering.

My man, let me fill you in on a little "reality".

Yes, we spend money on the rest of the world. In percent of our GNP, we are however about 6th compared to other nations. So, although we help/interfere in other nations, we're no where near number 1.

Second, I guarantee you we seldom spend one dollar where we don't have selfish motives. We always expect tit-for-tat in some way, shape or form. These details of covert government activities will never grace our eyes.

A wise man once said, "no man is an island", well, the same is true of countries too.

Looking at what is happening for the rest of the world is tiring because of so many wars and disasters. However, you cannot dispense with it because it affects our lives directly or indirectly depending and where you live.

I'm getting more tired of all these Conservatives that keep saying , keep them in Iraq. They are sitting in front of a computer, I'd support them to go down and join whatever branch they like, suit up and hit the trail to Iraq. When you get there and bullets start flying all around just keep yelling," We're winning the war, we shall prevail, bring em on, we will concur." Go on suit up get a rifle, have no Armour to protect you, I'm all for you. Get going, you will prevail in a casket coming home and do your duty, fight, fight, you will win just like you won the elections.

I live in one state why should I care what happens to another? Why should my tax dollars go to someone in another state?

We are all in this together whether we like it or not. we have one world and no place to run. We take care of it all or it will die a piece at a time.

yes, i'm tired of looking out upon the rest of the world and seeing it plunged into death and chaos by a reckless government which supposedly represents me. Very tired of it indeed, although not as tired of those at the recieving end of our bombs, missles and guns.

To be fair, we aren't looking out for the rest of the world. You have fallen for the propaganda. Not to say we are out to destroy it, we aren't. We are out for ourselves. Technically speaking, our leaders are out for their own power. The leaders of each country are out for their own power. They each use propaganda, and American government uses the ideas of freedom, democracy, independence, and love and care for those of other nations to convince us to support our government.

But the vast majority of those in power (either in America or in any other country you want to name--from Iran to Britain, from Scotland to China and everyone in between) don't give a f**k about anyone else (in others' countries or even those of their own country).

George Bush tells you that we went to Iraq to take weapons away from someone who is crazy enough to use them and is out for his own power; but Bush is going to bring freedom to them. So Bush takes his own weapons that he is willing to use (incidentally for his own power--taking Iraqi oil is the power here he wants), and immediately frees the Iraqis from Saddam's tyranny (and puts them under Shiite, Sunni, and American tyranny instead). Nothing has changed for the Iraqis other than who is doing it to them.

Nothing has changed for us, unless you want to count who we are doing bad stuff to (no longer Communists).

There are many good people in both countries (in all countries, including Iran). But those good people are suffering the same eternal fate of all the noble and enlightened--to be brutally crushed by the armed and dumb. Which are you, noble and enlightened or armed and dumb. Not the best of choices, but se la vie.
