I'm 19 weeks pregnant today (with my first child) .. I had an ultrasound done at the ER at 15 weeks because I was bleeding bright red blood. The ultrasound shows I have a "low-lying placenta". I have had spotting (brown discharge) off and on for the last month (ever since the ultrasound). Has anyone had anything similar to this? Is the spotting harmful to the baby? any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had the same problem. I was so freaked out that I was losing my baby. Mine was earlier in my pregnancy though. I think I was around 12 weeks when I started spotting bright red. When I called my ob/gyn she said that unless I was cramping or bleeding really bad, then I was okay, but if it got worse to come in and get checked out. Then my spotting went from red to brown, and I was so so scared. I went to the hospital and got checked out by ultrasound and it showed that I had a low lying placenta. My ob said that most likely my placenta would correct itself before the birth of my baby. She told me not to have any sexual activity for 6 weeks. And when I went back for my next appointment, about 4 weeks later, the spotting had stopped and my placenta had moved completly up higher. and I havent had any problems since then. ( im 36 weeks along now ) but my placenta is now located in the front of me instead of the back like most womans. But everything is fine and healthy. My baby was never affected by it at all. I hope that helps and everything works out. Good luck.
