Found online never tried, I don't use fabric softener at all.
Recipe for Home-Made Fabric Softener

A strong plastic container
1 cup baking soda
6 cups distilled white vinegar
8 cups water
(Optional) 10-15 drops orange or lemon essential oil (available at health food stores)

First, add the baking soda to the plastic container. Add 1 cup of the water to start with, then SLOWLY add the vinegar to the bottle. The vinegar and baking soda will fizz. Then add the rest of the water. Slowly swirl and cover – you will need to vent the lid a few times.

Use 1 cup in your final rinse cycle for each load.

Forget the baking soda. One cup of white vinegar in the final rinse will soften the clothes and no you do not get the odor of vinegar. Adding baking soda to the vinegar only makes the mixture foam up and dilutes the vinegar. If you want to fool around with a science fair project don't do it for the laundry.

At the bedding stores such as Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things they sell sets of little plastic balls with soft short spikes on them. They go in your dryer with the clothing and make it softer without any chemical fabric softener. No added allergens!
