In my work as a physician, I have had the opportunity to know about hundreds, if not thousands of marriages. Surprisingly, I would say that the happiest couples are those who met when they were young, although they usually waited until at least 20 or even later to marry. The other really happy marriages have usually been second marriages at a later age.
However, young marriages are somewhat less likely to succeed, but I don't think they are as bad as made out to be. Also, I'm not sure that the advice to date a lot of people is really good advice, especially in this day and age of sexual freedom and AIDs. I have advised my college age children to not try to date a lot of people, but to try to really care about the people they spend time with, and to feel free to marry when they find the right person, no matter how old or young they are when this happens.
I know this goes against the common advice but the people I see cross all levels of society, rich, poor, high class, uneducated, but are basically normal well-balanced people with no more than the usual problems. So perhaps my observations on marriage may make more sense for the average person than those of a counselor who is primarily seeing people who are having some type of problem?

It can be a good thing and then again it could be a really bad thing.Everyone is different and so is every relationship.I have been with my hubby since I was 17 and he was 20 and we have been together 17 years. But there are a lot of factors to consider to.Like what is the maturity level of the people involved. How well you are matched or how compatible the two of you are.I am not saying that all young people should ignore the advice of their friends/families and run out and get married. But when it comes down to it.It doesn't matter if you are 16 or 60 if you aren't compatible or matched well it won't workout and being too young has nothing to do with it.Besides look at all of the people whom are 30,40,or even 50+ years old that can't make a marriage work. I personally think that we are better has a couple because we got together so young. We know everything about each other and we had the joy of growing up and experiencing life together.

I don't think marrying young is such a bad thing but you'd have to be mature enough to handle it. My husband and i got married at the age of 19 and have no doubts that it was the right thing to do. We will be together for 4 years this march and we are expecting our first child in one week and and happy with our lives. We do fight but nothing that a normal married couple wouldn't fight about. I would listen to what your parents tell you and take that into consideration when you are thinking about it because remember, you parents sometimes know you better then you think. My mom always knew that we were mature enough to handle getting married and having our own family young.

young... anything under 25 and/or not finished getting a good education and a great job with a future.
Don't go from mom and dad's house to the husband's house. Live a littile. Have a life first. Get to have a lot of different experiences before settling down.
Too many divorces result from marrying too young. It's a fact.
Don't be in a rush. Miss one bus... catch another I always think!
Go... have fun... learn about the world before settling down. It's what I tell my own daughters.

I married as soon as I turned 18 and though I don't believe the right word would be stupid, I do think that marring so young without much knowledge of life besides living with your parents. Does not make a good and happy marriage. That's just my regrets of having not waited until I was older and wiser.

Your parents have lived a lot longer than you have, seen a lot more of life and speak with that knowledge when they tell you they think you are too young. You should respect their opinion and live a little more. There is no hurry to get married, is there? Some of the best years of life are in your late teens, and twenties, getting an education, learning a skill, setting up a good career path, not having to answer to anybody, not having all of life's responsibilities weighing you down. Pursuing your own interestests and hobbies etc. Once you are married, guess what, every single decision you make, you have to consider your husband, every single one. AND it's a lot easier (in my opinion) to make those kinds of decisions and sacrifices AFTER you've lived a little and experienced some of the things that life has to offer.

Yes its not a good idea because so many couple divorce anyway. You should date for awhile and see if this person is right for you.So many people get married young and never look far enough ahead to see what may happen financially or emotionally in a marriage.Partners change with time because of work ,stress, relationship and just everyday life. One or all of these things can be a deal breaker in any marriage.

well most of my friends and family that got married younger, got divorced within a few years. Most of the ones that waited till they were at least 26 or older are still married. Getting married young can bring some real realizations into effect that you may not be ready for. See the world, sew the oats, experience the world for yourself, then when your ready find the right one at the best time, haste makes waste....

you're not any further emotionally mature sufficient to handle it. Marriage leads to children. in case you marry youthful you nonetheless prefer to placed off children till you're a lot more beneficial solid. Marrying youthful because a newborn is on the way is almost hopeless in words of lengthy-time period fulfillment. that is like having to carry 250lb weights commonplace all day lengthy - you in trouble-free terms can not do it once you're in trouble-free terms 16; it is going to exhaust you and ultimately you blame your better 0.5 for no longer sharing the load (it is the emotional immaturity - its no longer some thing you precisely opt for to do - that is the way you /experience/). Now regardless of in case you construct as a lot because the point you are able to cope with it, it is basically too previous due the wear and tear is done; you've stopped loving your better 0.5 and ultimately you'll end (divorce). And, like understanding to get more beneficial, you need to make a wakeful attempt to practice in case you want to augment. imagine about what you want to do to make your SO happier and also you want practice restraining your self once you're indignant to stay away from declaring and doing hurtful issues.

I don't think it's stupid, but statistically you're more likely to get divorced when you marry young. Lots of couples marry young and they make it. However you're chances of staying together are low. Sometimes it's better to wait until you're in your mid to late 20's.
