Awww that's so cute. Well, you can never go wrong with a watch and a birthday cake!! Make sure you get the candles that are actual numbers though, the 8 and the 0....... I don't think he'll like blowing out 80 candles. I didn't like blowing out 25 on monday!

Give of yourself. Time! Spend time with him. Whatever his interest, fishing, hunting, sporting event, walk in the woods, arboretum, botanical garden, or on a pier. Drive in the country, or to the coast, include a picnic. Just a gift from the heart. Doesn't have to be on his birthday, maybe a home made gift certificate for the following week end or whenever the weather warms for him.

I am thinking that personal time would be nice. You didnt elaborate much on whether or not he gets around OK, but, out to dinner can be nice, then have them bring a cake and sing to him.. Or if hes the fisherman, give him a homemade coupon for a fishing excursion when the weather permits.... An album of childhood memories.....how about a blanket..another thing alot of older people like is scratch off lottery tickets in a card... hope this helped.

one time i went through my grandpa's old photo album and found a pic of him and his brothers... all but one are still alive and they don't get to see each other very much...
it was an old grey one and yellow and, really worn down, and a pocket size...
so i took it and got it redone, blown up to 8x10 and framed...
when he unwrapped it, it literally brought tears to his eyes... i guess he'd forgotten about that pic or something... i didn't expect it to have that affect on him...
so, maybe you could go thru your grandpa's photo album and do something similar? at that age memories are such treasures...

My mom got her dad a brick that went into a military memorial that was being built in town and he loved it. Maybe if he served in the military you can get him something to honor that?
