Why do friends say there your friends and crap then start rumors about you?

I am just wondering because one of my friends's friends that she has knowen for a long time just for no reasn started telling people stuff about my friend that wasn't true. if anybody can tell me why i would love to find out. thanks

This is most likely because she's jealous of him. Maybe she likes him, and wants his current girlfriend to break up with him because of the rumors so that she can ask him out. Jealousy is the main reason people do stupid, insensitive things.
