If you are referring to using numbers to describe the number of rotations done during a trick, it is because it is the number of degrees that a rider spins while in the air. For instance, if a rider does a 360, then they have completed a full rotation, which is equal to 360 degrees, the circumference of a circle. A 540 is one and a half spins and so on...

The ancient Egyptians developed number systems to keep accounts of what was bought and sold.
Today, my family uses them to quantify things and explain the concepts of "how much" to others.

Numbers also makes adding much easier. Try adding using old symbols. eek! Takes forever.
