post more info. it depends on what you like. if you like classics try "I never promised you a rose garden" or "the princess bride" by william goldman. or you can try "the only alien on the planet" which has nothing to do with aliens. great story. if you want vampires that are nice read "Twilight". if you like action packed suspense novels read the Agatha Christie books. they are the best. For example, "The Game was Murder".
I think the best book would be "And then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. its about ten people thinking that they won a vacation on an island. they get stuck there and one by one they die off. there is a murderer between them but no one knows but they are all positive that they are the only ones on the island untill everyone dies.
a review from amazon.com "Ten strangers are stranded on a deserted Island. All of them were there because of one person, U. N. Owen. Unfortunately they find out there is no U. N. Owen, he is just a mad man out to murder them all. Is it Lombard? Vera? Miss Brent? Or could it be Mr. Rogers? No one has any clue on which the murderer is. One by one they drop like flees. Every time someone is murdered a glass monkey that was displayed on the table disappears. All of the murders follow a strange riddle. Everyone is watching their backs but that still doesn't stop the mad man. This mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you keep guessing what happens next or who the murderer is. "

"Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley is 259 pages. It's also considered a classic and it's a really interesting book...it's also full of things to analyze. There are also only a few main characters: John, Lenina, Bernard, Helmholtz

I'm not sure if it's long enough, but you might want to check out "The Bridge of San Luis Rey". (I believe the author is Thornton Wilder.) It's a really good character study, gives a lot of insight and is really enjoyable. If I remember correctly, there are only seven characters, so that should meet your requirements.
Good luck.

Old Man and the Sea - Hemmingway
Thing Fall Apart - Achebe
Daisy Miller - James
Try the Achebe one. It's a good read. But all three could be classified as a novella.
