scientists and astronomers are now saying that a meteor known as Apophis will hit and distroy earth in the year 2036 on April 13.
And it was all over the news.

First, the current estimated probability that Apophis strikes Earth in 2036 is 1 in 50,000. By comparison, there is about a 1 in 7,000 chance you die in an automobile accident this year - if you're that concerned about a premature death, you'd better stay out of automobiles.
Secondly, the asteroid is a little larger than a football field. That's a decent-sized asteroid and would cause significant damage (the impact would be a few times stronger than the Krakatoa eruption), but it would not end life as we know it.

No. There is no asteroid in this solar system big enough to make the whole Earth explode if it hit.

It is very unlikely that an asteroid, even a large one, would completely obliterate the Earth. It would have to be struck with something larger, like a dwarf planet, to actually smash it to pieces. Even at that, it would probably clump back together, and become another planet.

no it would take a full planet sized object to do that. Even a relatively small asteroid hitting earth, however, could cause enough environmental damage to make living on it almost impossible

it depends on how big the astroid is. if it's just the size of a small trailer park, the earth will be fine. if we get hit by a bigger one... say... the size of roseanne barr... then we will be in trouble

No. Considerable damage would occur, but the planet would survive.
