The movement was a call for pride, and initially the participants did not accept the idea of a violent resistance. However, many who became activists after the massacre called for violent retaliation.

What in the world does this mean? It doesn't say what you want it to.
The movement was a call for pride. It initially did not accept the idea of violent resistance as had many activists since the massacre.

Your idea isn't clear to me. Here are my thoughts.

The movement was a call for ------- pride and initially did not accept the idea (who did not accept the idea?--not the movement, maybe members of the movement) of a violent resistance as the many ------- activists who had since the massacre (as the many activists who had what? accepted? not accepted? or something else?)

"activists who had since the massacre." should read "who did since the massacre".
