I'm trying to find healthy alternatives to my usual chips and dip, which is definitely not so healthy. I'm pregnant now and I don't wanna gain too much weight. What do yall think of reduced fat Triscuits w/ cheddar? Or would it be bad to eat them w/ the cheddar? What would be some other healthy toppings for the Triscuits? Thanks

Don't worry to much about your weight while you are pregnat. Just eat in moderations. ANd don't overstuff. Worry about your weight when you are NOt pregnat. Nows the time to enjoy eating and not feeling guilty. I ate what i wanted, and stopped when I was full and only gained 26lbs. You will be fine. Eat those Tirscuits w/ cheddar. Just not the whole box... :~) Other healthy toppings for the triscuits....mmmm....sliced tomatos, salsa, sliced colby cheese. Have fun with your pregnancy!

Reduced Fat Triscuits

It's not a bad snack; however, I wouldn't applaud any major product such as this one (I'll refrain from using the name of the brand) as actually being healthy. Look at the ingredients on the side of the box...there are a ton of strange things in there. Kashi makes healthy crackers with good "real food" ingredients. I'm sure there are other healthy brands, but that is the only brand I can think of at the moment. You can find them in most "health food" sections of grocery stores or mixed in with the other crackers.

After saying all that, Triscuits are a better choice than chips and dip. Cheddar cheese is fine, but you may want to use mozzarella or other white cheeses as they are often lower in fat that cheddar. Other healthy toppings are organic peanut butter, bean dip, and hummus.

One of the most important things you can do to avoid gaining too much weight is to exercise on a daily basis if possible. Walking is the best choice. I know it's hard when it's cold outside and pregnancy hormones make us feel tired. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water and take your prenatal vitamins!

Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy!

Not a bad start: whole grain, calcium...try putting an apple slice on top, too. Very tasty. You can use hummus instead of cheese, cream cheese or peanut butter. Anymore, it comes in lots of flavors, so you can pick one you like. You can also try fruit spreads (jams or preserves, but find the ones without loads of added sugar). Sliced tomato, salsa (if your tummy will take the spicy), avocado...check out the Triscuit website, too. I'll bet they have loads of ideas.

Go for the whole foods: bananas, apples, oranges. All you have to do is wash, peel or slice and chow down!

Popcorn is also a good snack alternative: lots of fiber and very few calories (so long as you go easy on the butter, that is).

If you're into finger food, sliced fruits, raisins or berries are excellent for you.

Or make little sandwiches or wraps with lean chicken, lettuce and tomato.

Also: along with healthy diet goes exercise. Talk to your doctor about an exercise routine you can keep doing while pregnant (rec centers and fitness centers in your area probably have prenatal aerobics classes, you can walk, swim...whatever works for you). Exercise will keep both you and baby feeling good: it will keep your metabolism cranking, keep your weight down, and make delivery easier. Also, for Baby, it will keep oxygenated blood flowing well through your uterus, making it easier to get the nutrients he/she will need to grow and be healthy.

Congratulations, and good luck--

Don't worry about your weight. I was told not to eat reduced or low fat foods because they usually contain more sugar or sugar substitutes which are not good for the baby. Cheddar cheese is great for the calcium. Just remember you are carrying a child. You will gain weight. If you feel you are gaining too much too quick then cut down on junk food but don't buy low fat stuff. good luck and congrats!!!

triscuits are nomrally made with whole grains, so yes they are healthier than chips. they are really good with cheese on top. try swiss too for a little variety. (even really good if you put them in the oven to melt the cheese!) i also had jalapeno peppers, cream chesse with chopped up olives in it (i craved spicy foods!) sour cream with ranch packet to make a dip and dip it in... can also try wheat thins, they come in a lot of different flavors and are healthy as well.

Personally, I stuck with mini powdered donuts and whole milk with my first pregnancy and cosmic Brownies and whole milk with my second pregnancy. Honestly, the jury is still out on whether you should be eating reduced-fat foods during pregnancy, when you need fat to build your baby's brain.

With both pregnancies, I breastfed afterwards, which helps your body to quickly bounce back to your previous weight. I gained the normal amount of weight expected for a baby (about 25-30 pounds) for both pregnancies and lost all my "baby fat" both times.

Obviously, eat in moderation, but don't worry too much. We all have our cravings during pregnancies and that's part of the fun of being pregnant. Enjoy it while you can, and eat the ice cream if you crave it. You might be craving it because your body NEEDS that fat to biuld your baby's brain!

sure thats a much better alternative .

Also salsa & cheese , hummous or tzatziki dip with the trisquits .
Popcorn is a healthier alternative to chips .
Veggies & dip or fruit & fruit dip would be a great snack too.
