Once the pilot is lit, which is prone to go out as well, the fire will only stay on for a short amount of time before it and the pilot goes out. This is preceded by a click similar to the sound that the button for the electric ignitor makes when being depressed. What does this sound like and what can we do here? Thanks.

If the pilot can't stay lit, there is a safety mechanism that shuts off the gas. Your regulator has to be adjusted by the installers for the correct amount of flow, if this is the only gas appliance you have.

You need this looked at by a tech.
