I live in Turkey and have lot of marble in and around house. It is polished to bring out the pattern and seal the surface,I am sure yours will be the same it will be difficult if not impossible to stain it.When I moved into my villa I had white marble which I lived with for a couple of years and just last week changed to granite which is stronger and much better coloured.I just looked at site in London who renovated and clean marble and even they dont do any form of staining.Marble is porous but not equally so .Therefore liquids entering it wouldnt absorb equally

you should not stain marble. usually it is already sealed so the stain will not hold anyways. Why dont you get a thinner marble top in the colour that you do like but place it over the existing and do a bullnose at the front to avoid the other colour, It will be costly but you will look at it and like it everyday. Is it carerra marble that he installed. White marbloe is very neutral and re-sale friendly. You could always try to live with it.

White marble is very porous (they uses granite for work tops!)
It should stain quite easily. But you would need to make a test patch fist! some where it want be noticed i.e. under the stairs in a cupboard if you had a spare piece use that.Try a wood stain or spirit base stain!

I have white marble in my bathrooms in Spain. It has stained badly so it must be a porous stone. You can't bleach it and somebody said use lemon but this hasn't worked either. If I was you I'd leave it. The outcome could be worse.

I would advise you not to use any cleaners that are acidic/containing lemon juice or vinegar as it can be to harsh on marble and develop a really matt finish. Best thing would be to use soap flakes hot water and a soft cloth and of course some good old elbow grease!!!
