to be frank... because they care more about their money, than about being black or gay...
that's all I can figure...
the only reason I've ever heard basically boils down to "I want to keep my money"... and you can say it in a "nice way" or in a round about way... but it's pretty much the same...
there may be other reasons... but I have not heard those...
and don't you love Republicans talking about the 1800s?... you do know, Republcians were CLEARLY the liberals back then...

On the flip side, why would a homosexual or black support the Democratic party? Afterall, weren't all of the Southern governors during the Civil Rights era Democratic? Wasn't Bull Connor a Democrat?
Here's why they would support Republicans (btw, the last time I voted Republican was in the 1988 primary). Republicans articulate a stance of lower taxes and less government. Homosexuals and blacks love their net incomes just as much as anyone else. Similarly, homosexuals and blacks are just as capable of the frustrations caused by government bureaucracy as the rest of us.

I'm black and independent. Individuals have the right to make their own choices even if they are self destructive. The appeal of the GOP to me is their family values rhetoric that many of them do not live up to. The appeal of the left to me is their fight for the average, working class, citizen. Neo-cons are very elitist and actually believe in their value over the rest of the world population. Far left believers deem to think that an anything goes society void of moral consequences is a good thing. This places me squarely in the middle with an empathetic heart for honest, average, citizens.
Please correct me if you feel I am wrong about my view of both parties.

I'm a Republican because....
I Believe... The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.
I Believe... Good government is based upon the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom, and responsibility must be honored and recognized.
I Believe... The free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.
I Believe... Sound money management should be our goal.
I Believe... In equal right, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.
I Believe... We must retain those principles of the past worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.
Why are you a Republican?
I Believe... That Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.
I Believe... The Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

When I found out what they do, even I was shocked at the levels they go to.
O.K I'll try to explain, basically the GOP are a very wealthy ruthless immoral group who have an obssessive need for power and a total contempt for every body and thing else within their narrow mind frame.
They started to realize they had an "IMAGE" problem, moms, families, honest business poeple, abhored them. They spent hundreds of $millions on polls and surveys etc. only to find out all deceant folk America saw them as fat old greedy men who screw grandma for a buck. They were pissed at bully tactics, the way they super poluted places and arrogontly said not their problem.
People hated tops of mountians being blown off ruing the landscape so they could mine quicker or easier, never apolagizing or claiming it was a big deal, usual tactic was to mock poeple that liked mountians and the waterways clean as commi pinko %$# .
When they finially figured out majority of county not county club millionaires (they knew, but thought they were greatly admired) They had to start stratagizing.
It took a few election cycles, a couple of generations, but real real evil genuis here is enter Pat Robertson and leagues of right wing evangales.(I know there are thousands of churches out there doing good work and getting a bum rap, but these guys were being bankrolled and built followings with major audiences. They totally distorted Christanity they implied you are only poor if you are not right with God. As soon as you start obeying God, the wealth will flow.
This was giving some subliminal message rich = virtue. Poor = Vice/depravity.
All the while these GOP were rewriting tax and loopholes, elimanting services for poor working families and changing the distrubution of wealth as they opened boarders increasing job insecurity and driving down wages.
So as the democrats were staying true to seperation of church and state, the Gop focused on the evils of gays, abortion, adulty, feminism..blah, blah. they never touched on social justice, rehab, forgiveness. No Death penalty, fear mongering, the evils of pot..
Polls etc. also told them new immegrants, Spanish speaking poeple and the core population held some pretty strong religios beliefs whitch they exploited to the max. With democrats uncomfotable preaching against laws of the constitution, the GOP painted them as godless heathens and much worse. Money was funnelled to hundreds or thousands of small churches where pastors were to say "vote your concious" clearly indicating who was the party of God' In this way they managed to get the por and middle class to vote against their own interest, they also kicked up some hate mongering with their intollerance message...Mary.

This is not true at all!! Remember the troll news discussion boards. The Anti Bush people would always attack blacks, gays and jews. In 1863- The Democratic party main plank was pro-slavery. How do dems feel about Israel? They back Palestine! The GOP actually helps minorities, and not just panders as do some.

Individuals support whatever they support for their own reasons. And I have never seen this. I doubt you have either, but if you have, it was the uncouthness of the particular individuals you observed. This is not "party" behavior. Those idiots just don't get out much.
