How do you think it compares to windows? I am using Slackware 11.0 with the KDE Desktop.

I like Slackware because I'm most familiar with it. It was one of the first distributions, and I've been using it since 1996.

If you're just learning Linux, I'd recommend another distro (but stay away from SUSE/Novell Linux)

The package management isn't so great though. But I like compiling from source and knowing whats going on with my system. This does sometimes mean that installing software is more complicated than on redhat or Ubuntu.

Slackware shares a lot of similarity in BSD, so if you get to know slackware pretty well, you can muddle through BSD easily.
