If the paint is still wet you can suck it out using an OLD OLD shop vacuum and then clean out the Hose and Container thoroughly after, for use in another emergency. if you have a lot of paint split , with a blunt knife try and remove as much as possible , then with white spirit on a cloth wipe the carpet , Always white inwards so you don´t spread the stain , then rinse straight away, then wash with a little of your own hair shampoo. rinse with a sponge making sure you have all the soap out . Then lay a towel on top put a heavy object on top of the towel this will help drain any reaming water from the underside of the carpet . leave over night like this . You most likely will have to sponge wipe the carpet again ,as sooner or later the water mark will come to the surface .

Latex? A damp cloth quickly.
Oil base? Paint thinner but be careful not to further damage the carpet
