I have a builders license in another state. I would like to get a license in florida. Can I grandfather my license from another state. If so what is the procedure.

No. Each county in FL issues contractor's licenses. You will need one for each county that you wish to work in.

Maybe, a person should be required to know enough about both and how they work together before they can get a license. If each understood the others field, they might do things differently with that knowledge in mind. Yes, trading jobs for a while might help.
