I have a blue imac with the original amount of RAM, which I believe is 32mb. How do I install a new memory chip?

Flip your iMac screen down on a towel to protect the screen. If you look on what is usually the bottom part you will see a door with a lock you can open with a coin.

Upon opening the door, you will have access to the DIMM slots.

If you're looking to upgrade the OS, depending on the version you want to install 10.2 or 10.3 you will need a minimum of 128 but 256 is highly recommended.

If you plan on installing 10.4 you will need a minimum of 256 but, 512 is highly recommended.

Call apple support. Keep in mind that it's subject to Steve Job's approval. It'll cost you about $834 for another 32mb.
