The big bang theory is not quite yet a scientifically done deal, but it is certainly close. Data from several sources (including Doppler shift of radiation from distant stars) indicates that the universe began with a tremendous explosion some 14 billion years ago. The search is on for dark matter and negative energy which seem to be needed to fill out the picture; if and when these are better documented, we will probably be able to say pretty certainly about the big bang. Your question is too broad to fully deal with here; you will want to look at other sources such as Wikipedia.

A scientific Theory does not carry the same meaning as the everyday usage of the word. Therefore, the Big Bang Theory, is not opinion or an idea. It is a concept derived though falsification and empirical observation. Falsification is the act if trying to disprove a hypothesis though experimentation and observation. When a hypothesis can not be disproved, it becomes part of a Theory. Note: this is somewhat a simplified explanation of a Theory. In everyday usage of the word, a theory just means "an idea or opinion". In science, an idea or opinion means "to conjecture"

The Big Bang was about 8.5 billions years ago. It is the best theory so far. At least as far as I have been able to see as logical explanation of things. This theory of a supreme being creating the universe is the most absurd explanation I can imagine.

How could you believe such a life?

How can nothing explode into something as organized and beautiful as the earth we live in now
