Because whenever they make movies based on books they always screw it up.

The only two books that I read and I felt the movie version did justice to the book was Jurassic Park and Silence of the Lambs.

Jurassic Park the movie had some better features because of how well the creatures were done by the FX department. But nothing in the movie compares to reading the part where the T-Rex had his claw on the high voltage wire and the reader then realized the power was out.

Silence of the Lambs the book had some better features because you got to know more of the psychological aspects of the characters that the movie couldn't do. Even though they tried. Some things can't be shown they need to be read to understand them.

The book and movie versions of these two stories were done exceptionally well. Hollywood got it right for a change.

The General's Daughter (book by Nelson DeMille, starring John Travolta) Only one small detail changed, and it did not affect the main character.
Harry Potter (Yes, in the movie they got rid of Peeves, and added moving staircases, but the movies do the books justice, just the same)
Many Stephen King books translated very well to movies: Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Misery, The Body/Stand By Me

I've never seen one. I think that books are so much better than the movies because they can go into so much greater detail about the characters and the story line.If the movie were to do this it would end up being a two day long movie. Plus you get to use your imagination on what the characters and places look like, not like in the movies where you have to go by what one person decided this character to look like. An example is when I read the book "It" by Stephen King. I imagined the clown looking a whole lot scarier. When the movie came out it seemed cheesy to me. Everyone has a different idea of scary, beautiful, etc. They just have to leave out so much of the book when they turn it into a movie, and add details to make it appeal to most audiences.

I know what you mean but, It is a lose lose situation. If the movie is different from the book It just doesnt seem right. If the movie is the same as the book you know every plot twist ahead of time and still feel cheated. Anyway I thought the Green mile was good and also Empire Falls.
