Although coming from a scorpio, this is NOT a judgemental question, it is merely me wondering, because I've noticed none of the answers have as much as the basics of the study of Astrology in them, and just answers by sun signs.
Do most of you only think in terms of 'star signs' (sun signs) or do any of you know there is much more behind just the dailies in the newspapers?
Go on, tell me all you know about astrology, just in short... I'm a very curious scorpio here - sagittarius influence and mercury conjunct the rising!

As finest example myself, sceptic, who does it for free and only tell what I see... *rolls eyes* if you have anything actually USEFUL to say, say it, otherwise just hold your tongue... And if it is true, where's the proof?

For the record; this is a question mostly directed to those who ask the questions on here and the ones who give an answer which is actually related to the questions posted in this topic...

Jennifer; thanks for the knowledge, but as you might have guessed from my explanation before, qand read between the lines a bit, you'd have figured out I know my fair bit about astrology - psychological as well as predictive and loads more where that came from - all I was wondering was how much other yahoo users know about it :)

Don't go there again chainlight. I can tell you exactly how and why it works, only I don't like to waste my time on narrow minded people like you. I don't have to explain myself just because you don't believe in something I do believe in. I am a skeptic, but I didn't claim it in this question, so why bring it up here?
Another thing, I asked the question do you understand Astrology> You've stated neither a yes or a no, let alone explained yourself further. Do you want to give an answer or just have your say?
And if your wondering what made me 'believe' in Astrology, START LOOKING INTO IT, instead of asking me. Then you might be able to tell me what exactly convinced me.
Astrology doesn't bite, it's good to actually know what you're badmouthing

Abuk, you're right where that is concerned. That's called generalising, and thats what the daily horoscopes do. In fact, taken in account ALL the aspects that make up ones natal chart, you can have endless different personalities in just 1/12th of the world's population.
It is phrases like that one that fuels that 'disbelief' in the general population.

I've studied Astrology for over 20 years so it is hard to tell you all I know in just a few sentences.
There is MUCH more behind sun signs than just the newspapers. The newspapers print generic crap. If you want to learn more about astrology, buy some books on it. Or go to astrology sites. Try Wikipedia for a start.
Astrology charts are based on the placement of the planets at the time you were born. Each placement tells about your personality, your emotions, your feelings, your energy. Everyone's will be different. No one is born a "pure" sign. You are a mixture of the signs of your sun sign and your other placements. These placements help you to pinpoint your strenghts and weaknesses.
Being a Scorpio, you have a natural curiosity and a natural paranoia. You're not very trusting. The Sagittarius in you will make you restless, irritable and loving to travel. You probably find it hard to sit still and silence probably bothers you. You can be quick lipped and quick tempered and not very forgiving. You don't accept anything at face value and have a natural BS detector. Not very people can lie to you as you see right through most people. This description probably matches you.
Hope his helps..

Answer number one is 100% right as for the person who said:
"Being a Scorpio, you have a natural curiosity and a natural paranoia. You're not very trusting"
So approx 1/12 of the worlds population whose birth date was decided when their parents decided to get a bit frisky, or when the walrus or love was sounding particularly appealing and not through some cosmic mystery all have the same traits eh? Does that not sound just a little bit comical?
Do you wonder why people don't take astrology seriously? I can understand that there may just possibly be something in a serious study done taking into account all the details of my particular birth date and time in relation to the sun and the moon etc etc etc but for all people born in a certain approx. 30 day period to have the same basic fate...... pull the other one.
As for me I have a sheeps entrails to read before bedtime so I'm off.

Being skeptical means we want convincing evidence.
I know that those that accept astrology can't explain how and why it works.
What kind of energy can come from planets made of rock, ice and gases? Can it be measured? If it can't be measured; there is no energy. Also what kind of energy does not weaken with distance? How can you be so damn sure. Tell us the truth, we can change our minds but put up the evidence. Please with sugar on top.
I know there is no one that claims astrology does simply take the JREF test, get an easy million. (see link) There must be some astrologer that need the money.
You claim to be a skeptic Celtic. What convinced you?
Add on. Carl Sagan's Baloney Detection Kit a tool for skeptical thinking (link 2)
Calling me "narrow-minded" is ad hominem. That is attacking the arguer and not the argument. Also which astrology? Your's or the many others?

I believe that birth charts can be very accurate, regardless of whether they are based on the stars or something planetary. 9 times out of 10 they are accurate when done properly. I don't however believe in predictive astrology, especially those ones in the newspapers. Birth charts and predictive astrology are to me very different things.
I believe the best astrology writer was Linda Goodman, especially her Sun Signs book - she really hit the nail on the head with people. And all I know is never wind a mars in Scorpio up.

I try not to get myself involved with the "is this sign compatable with this sign" and seeing as its the majority of the questions asked here. there isnt to many times to present some of the more indepth aspects of Astrology.
i know how to interpret Synastry Charts, Transits, Natal Charts to some degree using Western Astrology.
- a fellow curious water sign Cancer with Sagi Rising and Jupiter in the third house.
Add on:
this is mainly directed at ChainLightning - you asked what energy does not deteriorate with distance, in a vacuum light does not deteriorate with distance, its how we can see and proove many phenomenas in the sky. You still harbor alot of misconceptions about Astrology, so I challenge you to actually try to learn Astrology before making such claims.

For the most part astrological dailies are much too vague in newspapers, magazines, etc. I only read them to affirm myself of that fact.I do believe however that our personality traits are influenced by our birth dates.

If you were to think of your Sun sign as your soul -- your inner personality and potential -- and your Moon sign as your heart -- your emotional core -- then you could say that your rising sign or ascendant is your physical self or the face you present to the world.
If you know your birth time do your birthchart
http://www.0800-horoscope.com/birthchart.php
The sun (to integrate) in Scorpio (Intense and Secretive)
You are deep and intense (intense and secretive), and you enjoy digging into the depths of other people. You may be driven (passive) by deep, hidden emotions (secretive, water). You may be slow to get started on things (stable), but once started you can become a powerful torrent, which is difficult to stop (fixed). You are more likely to be driven by deep emotions (passive water) than to follow your true self.
And Yes I understand Astrology
The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.
The aim of education is the knowledge not of fact, but of values.
Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.
Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it.
Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held.
Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books.
Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin.
Believe nothing just because someone else believes it.
Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true
Love & Blessings

astrology is fun when you are reading your horoscope and saying hey i'm gonna have a good day today! but it is just dumb when you are depending on it to tell your future.
