Highlights are supposed to be relatively safe, compared to coloring all of your hair. Your scalp is not as immersed with chemicals as it is when you dye all of your hair.

With that said, I am 5 months pregnant and I tend to avoid perms, dyes, highlights, even nail polish. But I'm a little extreme.

There are natural ways to highlight your hair, depending on its current color. For light hair, use chamomile or rhubarb. To add dark rich highlights to dark hair, use cinnamon sticks, sage, or lavender. For red highlights, use dry hibiscus flowers or tea bags with hibiscus.

I have never gotten a straight answer to this question, but I was told you shouldn't do it at all during your pregnancy. I sympathize with you I am 10 weeks and I would love to do it. The dr. says if you absolutely want to do it, do it after the first trimester. You still have a couple more weeks. Also your hormones affect the dye. If you do blond highlightsyour hair might turn orange. Your hormones do funky things. I'm not taking the risk. It's hard cuz some doctors say yes and some say no. To give me a pick me I just get a haircut and have the stylist style my hair. Its nice to feel pampered and look good when you feel so icky during your first trimester. Good luck and congrats.

I got my hair highlighted when I was about 24 weeks pregnant and my Dr and hair stylist said it was fine. I held the blow dryer in my hands pointed up towards my face and set the temp on cool just to blow some of the smell out of my face. My highlights turned out the right color so I dont think changing hormones make a difference.

Go ahead and do it, it will make you glow even more!!!

There's isn't an concrete evidence that getting highlights or getting your hair completely dyed is bad during pregnancy. I say go for it. Highlights are a good pick me up solution when you feel the first trimester blahs!

You should check with your own doctor, but I've had my hair highlighted throughout my entire pregnancy. I've read mixed advice on the topic, but my doc said it's okay.

Why not? Women do it all the time. I did it up until my 8th month of pregnancy.

You see the women on discovery channel treating themselves for a day before they have their babies, so why not?

yep! just make sure the fumes aren't very bad, and its not in an inclosed space. but when you do it, tell your hair stylist that you are pregnant, they might suggest using certain chemicals.

sorry but the answers no your hormones can actually make the color different than what you wanted and you cannot breathe in the chemicals.
