Most probably your itunes Library had no songs and you connected a shuffle. You have iTunes in "automatic" updates and so it cleaned it up. Blame Apple for that genius interface.

Start iTunes, and under preferences setup "manual" updates.
Connect your iPod to your orginal computer to load back the songs, or start ripping again....

you have to start over from square one. reupload all your songs. it happened to me once. it is horrible.
