Well those kids who had issues stemmed from abuse in the home, I would have "pychiatric-counselor's" on staff for them... And, for those kids who are just harmful to themselves, or others... The psychiatrist and work, that pays them.. and a bank account on the site, to where whatever money they made they'd have to save, to give them "insentive". To keep them "motivated" to want to do positive things in order to stay out of trouble......I'd have a store there for them to shop for their own supplies, soap shampoo, toothbrushes, and all of their own needs....And everyone would work, and tend school., there. So that they didn't have idol hands at anytime, during there stay there.......There would be "Arts & Crafts" and "Music lessons" and "Trade types of classes" for those who always wanted to learn a trade, to get better jobs.... And there would be a detention room, for those who caused trouble, towards teachers, instructor's, or psychiatric care doctors.....And they would go to this padded cell, with nothing but boxer type of shorts, and a skimpy t-shirt, so they couldn't hurt theirselves.....There would be camera's all over the place, to keep an eye on them at all times... And "oudoor games" such as swimming, volley ball, baseball, football, soccer, tennis, basketball. Anything that would constantly be keeping them so busy, they wouldn't have any time to even think up bad things to do......For those with drug problems, would have to tend classes that teach them "Healthy living", and not preach on how bad drugs are, but how Wonderful Healthy living is!! And a "Drug Detox" center on site...Then they'd have to go too "Healthy Living" and once they succeded in this class, and had 6-8 months under thier belt of sobriety, they could then "Graduate" with a Ceremony, and a "Certificate" and then begin going to work, and saving their money, and buying thier own Living needs... But, they would first have "One Complimentary" set up, and after they've landed jobs, and all of them have to work, then they also have to make "Budgets" and learn how to work a bank account, and how to save , and how to pay thier bills.......Such as paying thier own way for their classes, or for their own supplies, and the like....To keep them busy, and learn how to use a bank account and manage money.... And after two years of being there, they could leave with their money, and those who were old enough to get their own places, after the program, would be taught how to establish credit, and use their funds for getting on their own, with recommendations for jobs.. And walked each step, of the way through getting a real bank account, a real job, job applications, shopping at real grocery stores, and the like... Oh, I could think of a million other things, that could help these kids to become successful adolescenses. and that also includes, church....smile!!!

The best rehab is in your face. The best rehab is 16 hour days of intense manual labor. Work them until they physically cannot go anymore. It shouldn't be like summer camp with a fence around it.

Personally, once they hit the juvenile justice system they are almost lost. Not completely, but they are the majority of the way there. Their parents have obviously dropped the ball in disciplining them, and now it is the state, or county's, turn to get them in line.

There should be some counseling, and things of that nature of course. But, the majority of it should be both physically and mentally very challenging. When the kids finally lay down at night, they should be so tired, they don't even remember laying down. Then, they get up and do it all over again the next day.

Exactly, but the society that our youth live in is not "pro-rehab." Our court systems seem to just slap juveniles on the wrist and send them back where they came from, which is why they had a court date to begin with......either bad parenting, bad friends, or other environmental pressures caused this "loving and angelic son/daughter to kill....."

Of all the children I've seen that commit crimes (adult crimes, thought out and planned ahead,) none of the parents thought that the child was capable of this sort of action. A system of keeping that child away from either parents or the peers that they were around in the past would keep these children from doing this sort of thing again.....sounds a lot like prison, doesn't it?

Our current system of sending a child to juvey for a few months DOES not work, since the child goes right back to where they had the mess in the first place. Too many times I have seen where the parent is into their own thing to even care about a perfect spelling test, or citizenship award. I would pursue a more responsibility active system that holds parents more accountable for crimes committed by their children, as this is such a direct influence by what the child is taught (or not taught) at home. Hold the parents liable for any damages, court fines, civil fines, or jail sentences. In other words, make the parent be a parent first.

seriously? Make them learning centers. Learn a trade or some profession while they are in there. Give them a sense of pride and worth. They need some spiritual center so they realize no man is an island. They are connected to society whether they like it, or don't feel like it, or not. And they have a responsibility to provide for themselves by living a good live and not abusing the rights of themselves or their fellow man.

That's what I know cause so many go in uneducated or unskilled. And that's a hell of a way to be as a young person. Also a lot of them are homeless cause they can't provide for themselves.

Which reminds me, their needs to be networking while in there of some apprentice type program to an outside private contractors who will hire those kids with those skills. So that they don't get lost when they get out of there. And those hiring places can get tax breaks also.

Well I could say but that's it for now.

That's what I'd like to see.

I think that children need to be taught life skills and also learn from their mistakes or crimes that they have committed. Especially since they are apart of the future generation. I don't beating them or punishing them any further justifies what they have done.

I think that people should be given a chance and be guided in the right way and also it helps if they have a mentoring program where as someone who is capable of mentoring troubled teens.

As a teenager I had a very strong mentor in my life and that was my sister who reasoned with me and gave me alternatives for choices that I could make. She also taught me there was a consequence to my choices.

If some of these teens come from broken homes what choices do they have especially if they aren't lucky enough to come from good loving parents? I think that if they found people who are well adjusted individuals who are capable of taking a younger person under their wing then it could be a good thing as long as they keep with in their boundaries between adult and teens.

I believe juvenile offenders need to be handled on a case by case situation. I believe in a lockdown security system, but with segregation to each offenders crime. So no new knowledge can be learned. I also dont believe in under 21 years of age should ever be placed in a Adult detention center

Build a centre where youth are encouraged to developed alternate skills and are required to master their emotional intelligence. Provide training in life skills, job skills, coping mechanisms and real life soltuions to the issues that these juveniles face.

We all need to feel like we belong somewhere, as if we as individuals matter to someone. It goes beyond feeling loved, its more than that.

What i would develop is removing those kids from there "home" environment and try and find GOOD foster parents in another state.Where they just have one juvenile to watch.I think if you try and rehabilitate a person and put them right back the same ole environment they'll go right back to using

I would make it to where everyone had a 12 th grade education and some sort of a skill or a trade to survive in this world if they were not going to go into college. I would make it to where they had every advantage to raise to the type of person they choice to be. Offer school, college, sports, all the things that can help them improve their selves and break the cycle.

It would be called "CONFORM OR DIE!"
First infraction loses you a finger.
Second infraction loses you an ear.
Third infraction means a bullet is headed to your cranium.
That'll straighten kids out. The ones that don't get it, well, natural selection is a wonderful thing.

(To all of you taking this too seriously, I'm just kidding...kinda.)
