i have had that many in a 55 gallon tank before (guess that's the size) they where about 1in to 2ins big. u could have one mean fish in the lot. just watch them closely and see if its just one picking or all of them. i got 5 in a ten gallon tank right now and are doing very good and there is one molly with them. i had one very mean goldfish and he his in a tank by his self. make sure u put enough food in there for all of them that can make them fight. good luck it will work out. if not give them away or ask a pet store to trade

Way, way, way overcrowded. 10 gallons of water minimum per fish is the rule. Once they get 4 inches and larger, the rule is 20 gallons of water per fish, and it can go up from there once they reach about 8 inches. Your tank is about a 55-60 gallon tank, depending on the remaining dimensions. I have a 60 gallon, 48"x14"x18" and I only have 6 fancies because I knew this was all I could have. They are still very small, but when they start getting larger, and fancies can grow up to 8 inches, I know I'm going to need to get a larger tank. It's not a wonder your fish are fighting. This is like putting 30 people in an elevator and expecting them to live there happily for the next 10 years. You need to get a tank that is a minimum of 140 gallons, with the plan of upgrading in the future, or take back all but, at most, 4 of those fish. If you don't, they will all die, either from disease or from killing each other. Please read as many articles as you can from this site to get a better understanding of goldfish keeping. Good luck!

What are the other dimensions of your tank? I'm assuming that this is a 55 gallon, since that is probably the most common size for a 4 ft long tank. To have 13 goldfish (even small ones) in a tank that size is severely overcrowded. Goldfish, depending on the type, need at LEAST 10 gallons of water each! This means that you have over twice as many fish in that tank as you should. You need to take most of those fish back, preferably all but 3-4, depending on the particular type. If you leave them, they will keep fighting until they have killed enough to live comfortably in that space.

How many gallons is it? Are they fancy goldfish or single tailed like common and comets? If they are fancies then the tank shouldn't be smaller then 130 gallons (10 gallons each while babies), you will need to upgrade soon though. If they are single tailed goldfish they should really be in a pond but can be kept indoors for a while if the tank is around 260 gallons (20 gallons each while babies). Since I highly doubt the tank is that big they could be fighting because of lack of space but the fighting is the least of your worries if that is the case. If you don't want to get a larger tank for the 13 fish then either return most of them to the store or give them away.

I assume by 4 foot tank you are referring to a 55 gallon, no more than 4 adult fish as they can get to lengths of 8-14 inches. As far as fighting if they are still small they may just be playing or picking on a weak fish that would need to be removed.

That is not good that they are fighting. Gold fish are very agresive! They need their own fish tank. They do not like other fish on there with them. Trust me I know this because I used to have 2 of them and we were going to get 2 more but when we saw them fight we had to pit them into seperate tanks. But if you have 13 of them then I am sorry but I don't think there is a way to stop goldfish or any kind of fish from fighting. I meen if they start to bite each other then you should let them go into a near by creak or find people who want gold fish. Then they can take a goldifhs or 2. That is what I woud do if I was in your situation. Don't worry you will think of something. Good Luck!

I doubt they are fighting, they are probably trying to spawn you need to reduce the number of fish in this tank and add plenty of
aquatic plants for your fish to lay their eggs in

The typical rule is they need two gallons of water for every inch of fish. The bad thing about gold fish is once they start picking on each other they wont stop. At least that's my experience with them. Try removing the meanest gold fish. Good luck.
