I have collected and used my own moon blood for many purposes: from dying wool that I have spun, to writing poetry, to making ink blot art. Yes, it works mostly like ink, but is thicker and dries fast. I have thinned it out occationally when required. You need to use a good heavy paper if you want a distinct result. I recommend making your own reed, feather, or quill pens for the purpose, as the heaviness of the paper blunts them quickly. The colour is very different when it dries, of course, and you need an awful lot. Slitting your finger or even your arm will only make a blotch, not even a signature.
I usually use old dip pens personally, for everything from sacred work to writing checks and journal writing. I'm lazy, and though I'm familar with the process, have way too many other projects to do than worry about my pens, too.

Well, I'll tell ya. For school work, I like gel pens... various colors. I really like purple the best. The gel ink is smooth, writes really well.
Now, about the blood and using it for ink? Too thick, clots too fast. Add a drop or two of blood to a mixture of red ink or even better a thin paint, and use a quill pen for that in spells. Works much better. There are lots of red inks and paints out there. Find an ink/paint that you like writing with first, practice with a quill, and then add the blood drops once you get the hang of it. But don't try just blood. Way too thick, and to be honest, it does not dry red, but a yucky brown red. Add a few drops of blood to the ink/paint, it does the same thing.

Blood does not work as well as ink.
Blood fades with time... relatively quickly. Ink does too, but not nearly as quickly or as completely.
Is an old time quill pen better than a feather pen? I thought they were the same.
I would rather write with a ball pen. I have tried, just for the fun of it, writing with a quill (paring it, dipping it, the whole nine yards). It was a pain in the *ss.

Blood...
The thing that sucks is that it loses that glorious red colour when it dries on paper, so it goes kinda brown. Then your art kinda loses its effect...
