the jumper settings are dependant on the make & model of the hard drive, not the machine the drive is in. is it a maxtor, western digital, seagate, etc., and what is the model number?

ST340015a

I believe you have a Maxtor (Quantum? May even say Fireball) Hard Drive maybe 40 GB? which has been bought out by Seagate. Go here and read; http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=How_To_Install_and_Troubleshoot_ATA_Hard_Drives&vgnextoid=559e5b1142aec010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD
Jumper settings here and hard to see, may copy and paste to something that can view GIF files and enlarge; http://www.seagate.com/images/support/en/us/mxo_ata_jumpers.gif
You probably have a Sony PS2 model # SCPH-20401
They use regular Hard Drive like a computer look here read the comments below too they may mention something, be sure you read only the ST340015a as they mention others too;

I have one of these and it was in a Compaq 5000 Presario Model #5UVM11 the Jumper was on the third set of pins from Right, if you count there are 9 total (See source link). 4 Sets of 2 and one stand alone. The Hard Drive was alone on the Cable and there were a CD/DVD together on a cable. The Hard Drive was pluged into the Primary and the CD/DVD were Secondary Drives, if this help.
