Can anyone give me a detailed explaination of Poe's Pit and the Pendulum?

I need to do a book report on the pit and the Pendulum and Its really hard to understand. Can anyone please explain this story to me, if you have read it?

go to wikipedia.com and type pit and the pendulum. you should see the whole summaries and **** about the story.
