The answers so far indicate a desire to prove there is something. Duh! of course we live in a material world. I just found it intiguing to think about what it would be like with a vast emptiness. Sort of mind blowing thoughts. When I said nothng I mean an absolute infinite vacuum of . . nothing. (I am a commited believer in God, Jehovah and the basic Apostles Creed. Unwavering Uncompromising).

Think of it this way - When you think of the past, it is an abstract thought. It can only be 'held' in your mind. It has already happened. And when you think about the future, it is also an abstract thought. It can only be 'held' in your mind. It hasn't happened yet. Now the present is an infinitely small span that bridges the future to the past. Since it is INFINITELY small, it has to be an abstract thought. So, can you argue that there is nothing that isn't only in your head? Isn't everything isn't just an abstract thought?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

But if, by some great miracle, it should turn out that there's no God, I've missed nothing.

But what will happen to you if it turns out that there is a God?

(It just occurred to me: the thought you just expressed was previously expressed in the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. Are you a John Lennon fan?)

There is no such thing as nothing!! If you ever succeed in finding "nothing" you will soon realize there is something. It will be you, your conscious self, and you will be God and have to create a universe out of "nothing" in order to keep from going mad with loneliness!!

An oddity of space, when it is unoccupied, it contracts. If there is nothing there, then it doesn't exist. That is why something out of nothing can be. It is simply an expansion of space.

and before there was anything, what was there? Even vast emptiness is something...where would that have come from?
