Surprise! Surprise! Yes it is 'real meat'.
Here in Canada it once was from a company called 100% Pure Canadian Beef. The funny rumour on that was that it WASN'T 100% beef, but actually had fillers in it like sodium. It's just because the name of the company was "100% Pure Canadian Beef", that they were able to call it 100%.
But that got changed when the government found out about the shenanigans, so now, what you get from Scrawny Ronnie's IS 100% beef. The chicken products they sell can also boast honestly that it's 100% chicken.
But that could, by rights, include parts of the bovine that is usually overlooked, such as cheeks, gluteus muscles, and such.
I believe it's basically the same in the U.S.
As far as places like India and Pakistan, they use chicken and fish in place of beef because cows are sacred in those countries.
I think McDonald's gets a bad rap somewhat unnecessarily, but I also have to say that some of their food is a little on the questionable side. But face it, people are hooked. I bet they could be making their filet-o-ish out of minced shark guts and people would still buy it.
My son and I poke down several "pukeburgers" a month with processed cheese and dehydrated onions and we still love 'em. :o)
Gimme a Big Mac and LARGE fries with that please!

It is as pure as any commercial hamburger that you will find. Don't forget that the government defines "meat" as anything that is on the animal, not just the parts you would choose if you were grinding good cuts up at home.

Contrary to popular belief, there is some meat in their hamburgers along a lot of fillers and additives. One chain which will remain nameless uses Kangoroo meat.
