Another Question About Japan?
This is kinda a few questions in one, so, here it goes: We are planning on going to Japan, but we haven't set a date yet. My mom says definitely not this year, maybe in 2008. My twin sister and I are in 6th grade now, so in 2008 we will be in 7th grade. We would be staying for 2 years or more in Japan. (Mom is teaching English.) When do you think we should go?
Also, what are good places for tourist to go in Japan? What shrines should we visit? What sites should we see? What restaurants should we eat at? Where should we shop? Please write everywhere that you think is somewhere we definitely don't want to miss out on! Also, what are some things we should know before we go?
And, one last thing, how old do you have to be to get a job in Japan? This is purely out of curiosity.

Well, we plan on moving to Hokkaido, but we are going to to a few weeks of tourism first.

Also, what are popular styles in Japan? And how big is the 'thin thing' in Japan? By that I mean how much is being skinny stressed? More or less than in the US?

You won't be able to get a job. For one thing your school probably wouldn't allow it, another is you would have to have good command of the language for any place to hire you. You may be able to give private English tutoring lessons, that's your best bet.

Been in Japan for 11 years and just love it so I'll try to give you some answers.

About food first :-)

Make sure you try yakiniku. This is Japanese style B.B.Q. that was borrowed from Korea. If you like steak you will love yakiniku.

Sushi is a must have too while you're here.

Go to Kaiten sushi and you'll enjoy watching plates of sushi pass you by on a conveyerbelt.

While you're here I would visit an onseni ( hot spring bath) In Ikaho they have great ones. Ikaho is in Guma prefecture.

Coming to Japan in the fall would be a great time because it's cool. Japanese summers are HOT and winters are really cold.

To get a job in Japan teaching English you will need a collage degree in anything so I think this answers "how old you need to be to get a job" question. If you wanted to work at something else, you'd need to speak Japanese.

Get a book that teaches you the Japanese basics. Knowing a little Japanese can help you a lot.

Hope this helps

dont miss Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture, climb Mt Fuji, stand under the Hyocentre in Hiroshima, scuba dive Okinawa and snowboard in Hokaido !

Japan is the biggest 'Double Standards' place ive ever been to.
ill let you find that out for yourself.

most school students dont work as they parents pay for everything, and (im not quite sure but) you may need permision from the school to work.

100 yen (Daiso) shop is a great place to buy things. very cheap, everything is 100 yen (about $1 - excluding conversion rate)

get used to being a 'Gaijiin' !
just tell people you are from out of space.

Well, it depends on what area you plan to do a TCS (Temporary Change of Station).

Now, around the Tokyo area, go to Tokyo Tower, it is awesome!

In Yokohama, is the Landmark Tower.

Nothing good in Yokosuka, except for the Daiei mall, just a 10 minute walk from Yokosuka NB.
