If reality is indeed fractal, then there may be an infinite number of almost parallel universes, each a fractional number of dimensions away from us.
For the sake of reference, if our dimension set is (1x,1y,1z,1t) ie. our x,y,z coordinates, and time, then there may resonably exist, (1.1x, 1.1y, 1.1z, 1.1,t) , etc. all linked by infinitely thin pathways, and all fixed around a superset 'hub'.
See the 'Mandelbrot Set' to see what i mean. As you get furtheraway from our dimension set, similarities would become less.

keep watching discovery science channel there always something on the probability of parallel or alternative universes (possible infinite number of universes), of course these are theories. however this theory of parallel universes has been given a new breath of life due to the possibility of 'leaking gravitions'. (gravitons are particles of gravity as photon are to light, now you are getting into 'quantum theory' and 'string theory' (more theories) which is not my area at all.) as far as i can make out a New York University physicist named Georgi Dvali thinks that gravity on a cosmic scale is much weaker than has been assume so where has the gravity gone? he believes that the gravitons are leaking into other universes. hence possible proof of parallel universes.
you should read ''the frabric of reality'' by David Deutsch Oxford physicist.
the link below gives a far better explanation than i can

No but Hawking thinks there could be more than one universe,
loads, lumped together like seperate bubbles in a lump.

Was it on Nova? I think I heard of that. Nova is on the Public Broadcasting stations, by the way.

Its not true, there is no proof of such things, research into things of this nature are a waste of time money and effort.

This kind of idea is not science - there is not a shred of evidence for it.
It is fanciful thinking - evolutionary fairy tales.
