Yes. Extra doses of Vitamin C won't hurt him.

Yes - there is no way to be harmed by vitamin C, even by an overdose. Because it is water-soluble, it will be out of the body in about 2 hours. However, when the body had it, it is used to stimulate white blood cell creation, increase blood flow, and increase mobility of phagocytes, the cells that literally "eat" bacteria and viruses. The only way to even by slightly harmed by vitamin C is if you take extremely large amounts and rapidly cut down (from like 1000 mg to 200 mg). Take a lot more during a cold, but then ease yourself (or your son) by like 200-300 mg a day until your down to normal (or none).

Vitamin C is a great supplement, it would be good for a young child, read the instructions on the bottle first... I'm not sure how it would ''shorten'' is cold

Yes, Vitamin C supplements are fine.

You may also want to try guava juice, because it has 4 times the Vitamin C as OJ.

Perfectly, the only thing too much vitamin c will do is cause the excess to be expelled during urination painlessly.

It should be. I don't see why not but ask a local pharmacist for sure.
