It depends on how much time you are willing to dedicate to your pet.

Dogs and cats are usually higher maintenance pets so you would want to get them if you have a lot of time on your hands. They are also good for responsible children, especially adolescents.

If you are just looking for a pet to brighten up your home, then get a smaller pet such as a hamster or a bird. They are basically independent and can take care of themselves. You just have to provide them with food and water.

The PetsMart Website offers some good information on deciding on the right pet.

Maybe you have a big farm, you can get a dog, cat, or horse. If you live in a apartment you can get a fish, cat, snake,or lizard. If you live with a roomie than you can get a fish, cat, hamster, rat, gerbil etc. If you have allergies get a fish, snake, reptile hairless animals. Whatever pet you want!! I'm 11.

Well I would say dog. If you like to play and get excersise and have a companion I would recommend that. If you don't want to take care of something so big, I'd recommend a rat. They are really friendly and they don't bite. They love to be around you. They are adorable. And I KNOW from experience okay!

Depends on what you like, fish if you don’t like pets that are always near you and you have to take care of the least, cats, if you like pets that don’t bother you too much, and dogs, if you like a big ugly hairy thing licking you all the time.

A dog. You can go to the park and let people pet him/or her, and it will be sooo FUN to teach it some tricks, like me.I have a dog and her name is cookie and I taught her to shake hands and to give high 5's.

personally I think hamsters. they're independent as long as you make sure they have food and water. food should be given everyday or 2 days and water last a week I guess. and you just clean their cage once a week.

you only have to deal with them when you want to, they're cuddly if you hold them enough and they're entertaining.

so much better than a cat who is annoying and a dog that needs to be played with. also they only live 2.5 years unlike a dog that lives 10-15 and cost a lot to buy....

I have 2 hamsters and I love them!

depends:

low maintenance- gerbil, bcuz their clean, friendly, sociable, and very good photo oppurtunities!! they also produce less waste than hamsters, bcuz of being desert animals.

high maintenance- dog, or ferret, bcuz dogs are loyal, cute, able to learn tricks, and smart, and ferrets are funny, entertaining, can use the litter box, able to learn tricks, and quite intelligent
