This one nearly caused a fight between a bunch of climbers and a bunch of cavers! In the end it was decided that climbing in caves was still outdoors as it was not a man made environment. Sadly someone then mentioned disused Welsh mines and the whole thing kicked off again!

There's also the argument that nice safe man-made climbing walls that happen to be outside should be classed as indoors because it's not exactly rough and ready outdoor climbing!

It's a good fun question to pose to a group of outdoor activity instructors, the other fun one is to go kayaking and continually refer to the kayak as a canoe.....drives 'em barmy!

I guess it should be classed outdoor. I'm no climbing expert, but technically, indoor climbing means the grips are made and placed based on the difficulty. If you use natural grips where you have to find them and us the wall in some way, then it should be outdoor

I would say its classed as outdoors still, because a cavern still gets wet inside. Indoor climbing you dont get wet, insideof the building doesnt get wet.
