Does anyone have any positive experiences of therapy that they can share?
I am especially interested in psychoanalitical therapy and to find out what 'depth work' is.
But i'd be interested to hear about any kind of therapy that has an effect on the mind.

Please could you say what therapy you are talking about.

I have developed a great deal inwardly in recent years, in terms of living from my heart much more and my head less, and one major influence on that has been my person-centered therapy.

Some years ago I learned how to be a stepfather through working with my psychosynthesis therapist. I was pretty awful at it before I started seeing her.

Previous to that I had a different psychosynthesis therapist and the main benefit I gained from that relationship was to develop my ability to give and receive love in a one-to-one relationship.... in other words, to become prapared for the marriage that came to me the following year.

I have to say I am much more skeptical of psychoanalytical therapy. At best, according to people I know who have been patients, it delivers results as good as person-centered or other "humanistic" therapies but with more time, more sessions per week, and much more expense. At worst it is much more off-putting because the therapist gives you orders you don't want to take and the process lowers your self-esteem. It's much easier with psychoanalysis to get to feel you are a (helpless) victim of whatever is troubling you, or mentally "ill" or "disordered".

"Depth" work means uncovering what is in your subconscious mind. It's based on their theories about the drives and "needs" we have in our early childhood and how your choices then affect you as an adult.

All models of psychotherapy attach SOME value and meaning to our subconscious because it is part of us, but humanistic models such as person-centered, Gestalt, psychosynthesis, etc, and also cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), focus on what is present to the client in the here-and-now and work for change from there. It's less threatening, and apparently at least as effective.

I underwent imaginative and prescient scientific care while i became 21 for lazy eye (amblyopia). This difficulty became simply by fact my left eye crossed fairly and subsequently the imaginative and prescient did no longer improve as thoroughly as my good eye. I had no stereopsis simply by fact my eyes did no longer paintings collectively. before everything of imaginative and prescient scientific care i became 20/2 hundred in my left eye and 20/20 in my good eye. After imaginative and prescient scientific care I actual have maintained approximately 20/25 in my left eye for years. I no longer suppress my left eye and my stereopsis is now very stable (approximately 30arcsec). frequent i'm very pleased with the end results of my imaginative and prescient scientific care - it became extremely some centred paintings besides the indisputable fact that it became truly truly worth the attempt!!
