One of the many problems of the drug war is who has vested interests in it continuing. The stock market and the pharmaceutical industry are major factors. Not long after Richard Grasso ended his time at the NYSE he travelled to Colombia. It certainly wasn't for a coffee run. Untold billions and possibly trillions have been laundered through the stock market.
The major illicit drugs that come to one's mind like cannabis, opium products and cocaine are all used in FDA approved drugs. These various products are all extremely easy to divert with the exception of dronabinol (synthetic THC). In order to be effective it must be refrigerated or kept in a very cool enviornment. It also the only one that is up to 4 times more expensive than the black market price. While cannabis remains a Class I controlled substance, synthetic THC was granted a special exemption in Class III so it could be made available by prescription. It is no coincidence one of the founders of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America was an executive at Johnson & Johnson.
The drug war has created it's own economy that employs hundreds of thousands.
The federal government took the lessons learned from Prohibition and made sure they didn't make the same mistakes when they crafted the legislation.
The "war on some drugs" needs to end, I work daily at the goal. I believe at least cannabis will be legalized before I pass on.

It is a losing battle. I agree with you alcohol & cigarettes have killed and continue to kill ppl everyday. The only time illegal drugs have killed anyone is when there is a turf war between dealers. Look what happened during prohibition, once that ban was lifted the killing stopped. Lift the ban on the so-called illegal drugs and wahla peace. Use that money for all the abused mothers and children. Help the homeless, the poor mostly use this money to help OUR VETERANS!!

you are so right! Alcohol is so dangerous, makes people want to fight, and act like general a$$holes. Who can afford prescription drugs that you might actually need to be well... You never, ever, ever see someone under the influence of marjuana alone that wants to fight, starts trouble, or drive like a bat out of heck. The laws pertaining to these are ridiculous and expensive. I'm sorry if this now sounds like a 'legalize marijuana' answer, but it is,....and why not? Drug war is a joke.

it really is a failure, as verified by technique of the particular shown actuality that far extra human beings smoke marijuana today (in share or absolute words) than became the case in 1938, even as it became made unlawful. What to do next? straight forward: legalize it, a useless ringer for we did with a diverse drug once we finally realized that alcohol prohibition turned right into a failure. an same applies to different drugs as well. authorities has no business enterprise telling us what chemical substances we may be able to position in our personal bodies, see you later as we do not flow out utilising even as loaded, or in the different case endanger human beings except ourselves.
