Why is there that phone call at the end of the Pink Floyd song: YOUNG LUST? Is it real? What does it mean?

[clunk! of phone being put down]
"Oh, He hung up! That's your residence, right? I wonder why he hung up?
Is there supposed to be someone else there besides your wife there to answer?"
[Phone rings again...clunk of receiver being picked up]
"Hello?"
"This is United States calling, are we reaching...
[interrupted by phone being put down]
"See he keeps hanging up, and it's a man answering."
[whirr of connection being closed]

The album The Wall is a rock opera and it tells a story. That song goes into another song and between those 2 songs he's ringing his wife but she's in bed with another man who answers the phone and keeps hanging up on the operator. Listen to the whole album and watch the movie.

No way. No guy who is banging another guy s wife would ever answer her phone not once, but twice!. If you follow that line of thought then he must have been expecting a call. Who then was he expecting? Did he call another guy or girl to join the party? Did he order pizza at an all night delivery shop and think they got lost? No. It makes much more sense that Pink was smashed and kept calling one of his old friends who knew that Pink has a penchant for drunk dialing. Not about to accept the long distance call, he hung up. It was in the original script before the producers changed it for the movie.

Pretty sure it's real, but it's probably scripted, not an actual conversation.

One of their older songs had Mrs Floyd calling from UK to USA looking for Mr Floyd. Same senario. Woman answered and hung up when operator asked fro Mr Floyd.
Obviously he or she, depending on which message we are speaking about, is with another person.

I think it is staged. If you notice the second time the operator calls she stops the millisecond the phone hangs up. There would be some time of recognition for that period where she should continue with her speal.

This was after a concert, so it's the middle of the night in England. Why would another man be in Pink's house at 4AM except to be banging his wife?
