It must be warm. Take the lamp outside for awhile in the freezing weather. You can also spray it when it is outside. Put some spray around where the ants are crawling up to it too. I certainly didn't know that ants could turn a touch lamp on though. Maybe the lamp is just faulty.

Perhaps another bug crawled in there and died? Or some kid got candy in it. Something is drawing them, and I don't think it is warmth.

An exterminator will help rid your ant problem, and ultimately the touch lamp by default as well.

If you did not actually see them I would look for another answer besides ants. The controller might be defective which is more likely.
