This is kinda a few questions in one, so, here it goes: We are planning on going to Japan, but we haven't set a date yet. My mom says definatly not this year, maybe in 2008. My twin sister and I are in 6th grade now, so in 2008 we will be in 7th grade. We would be staying for 2 years or more in Japan. (Mom is teaching English.) When do you think we should go?
Also, what are good places for tourist to go in Japan? What shrines should we visit? What sites should we see? What restaurants should we eat at? Where should we shop? Please write everywhere that you think is somewhere we definatly don't want to miss out on! Also, what are some things we should know before we go?

I meant that we are going to be sightseeing and doing the 'tourist thing' for a couple of weeks before we start 'living there.'

I agree with what the previous guy says. 2 years is too long to be called "a tourist".

And I think it's a bit boring for teens to visit something like shrines or temples. So you should enjoy a life in Japan, going for shopping, having a date with some nice Japanese guys, eating good Japanese food.

If I should recommed a place to visit during your stay in Japan, it's Hiroshima. It's the only city along with Nagasaki which experienced disaster of A-bomb in the entire history of humankind. There are some museums in the city.

That's something you can see only in Japan, not anywhere else in the world.

If you are moving to Japan because your mother is teaching English, then the program or school that your mother is working for should already have a planned date for her to start working. I would suggest moving in a week or two before she starts work.

If you are staying for two or more years, then you are not going to be a tourist. You'll be experiencing Japan as a resident of Japan. Two years is enough time to travel all over Japan. I would go to:

1. Tokyo
2. Kyoto
3. Nara
4. Nagoya
5. Osaka
6. Hiroshima/Miyajima
7. Sapporo
8. Kobe

Those are all major cities and tourist areas in Japan.

Because you are going to be in Japan for such a long amount of time, I think it would be a better idea to plan where to go and what to do once you get there. There is no need to plan your entire two years (or more) stay in Japan right now!

I agree that you should wait until you get to Japan to decide where to go. Have you figured out where you'll be going to school??
If you want to work on something now then do this--you and your sister should start studying Japanese! And so should your mom!
Also you guys should read some books about Japanese culture, cultural differences, etc.
