I recently moved to the Midwest and no one here has an answer...
also- are they called something else once they fall off??

Typically it is called road grime . Any nasty stuff coming from the road including dirt ,rocks, snow, salt, slush,oil,grease, and road kill that sticks to your car.

There is no proper name. You can call them whatever you want. Everyone knows what you are talking about.

Maybe you can come up with a name and summit it to Webster's to see what happens. Ice clod seems like a good one.

I call them icebergs cause after there on there a while and fall off they are like a rock

I have always called them a "Pain"! I don't think there is a particular term for that condition. Frozen slush??

I dont think that there is an actuall name for it, its just ice chuncks and slush.
