It could a numerous things,

But try checking the fuse, and check the battery charge level, also there are sensors, and it costs a bomb to get the sensors fixed, dont bother!

my brother had same problem, car was fine, he had a 5 series.

In the end he removed the light bulb for the abs, and just went through ok for 3 years!

I seached on youtube and found this, read the description:

:

96 740iL. ABS & ASC+T lights come on only after it rains. During the first driveoff each day, they come off and come on later. Once completely dry, they don't come back. Most likely a malfunctioning wheel sensor when wet.

So you could have wet, damp wheels!

So drive it around for 3 weeks, and see if it goes of and on when parked and when moving.

lol at the last guy. No offense to the asker, but the 318 is (was at the time) the cheapest BMW made, I don't think she's trying to show off. They weren't all that much more than a nicely equipped accord or a camry.

Anyways, could be anything. There's nothing worse for a car than having it sit parked for long periods of time. Check your fuses, and as said see if you can get the abs to kick in (do this somewhere isolated and open)

All electronic components are subject to corrosion when inactive for a prolonged period of time!. At worst the abs manager has been corrupted over time, more likely one of the wheel sensors are at fault, putting a few miles on it may clear the fault indicator. But find a safe location and test the abs is working properly!!!

Take it to the jet wash and concentrate on jet washing in side each of the 4 wheels then take teh car for a decent length drive.

If it is stil on you will need to have the wheels off and the sensors cleaned, if this is a no go then you will need to have a sensor replaced

Unfortunately a decent garage will need to plug their diagnostic computer into the car to identify the sensor and reset the fault after replacing. Expect to pay around £30 to have your ECU read at a decent garage

Go for teh jet wash option first....

Corroded abs sensor somewhere likely. First try taking it down the road at a rate of knots and hit the brakes and try to get the abs to kcik in. This sometimes helps.

If not you need to clean up the sensors.

I had this on a 520i, i found it to be a dirty sensor on the brakes. Get some one to take off the wheels and check the sensor which will be on the back of the pads.

Check the brake fluid. I would still take it to a bake shop they can reset the light

I guess you'll have to pay a licensed mechanic at a BMW dealership $150.00 an hour to help you figure that one out. And no I'm not jealous, I'm envious.Good luck.
