Ok depends wot sort of roof vinyl or mohair if its mohair then by da autoglym cleaning kit (available at halfords) u get 2 sprays and a special sponge. u have to vacum da roof 1st the u use da spray and wipe, the final spray protects the roof. with a vinyl just scrub with a sponge and rinse like u would a car.

i have just got a convertible and my handbook says not to take to a car wash and not to use a jet wash only need to clean once or twice a year using just water and a soft brush brushing front to back along with the pile, if stained can use a specialist cleaner but rinse well with lots of water, that is for a fabric hood, some are vinyl

I've just done mine funny enough.. I simply undid all the bolts and electrical connections holding the roof to the vehicle then put it in the washing machine. I did make a big mistake and left the machine on boil wash which shrunk the roof considerably. However I traded my Mercedes 320CL convertible for a mini and it fits fine now.....
Hope this helps

Use Auto Glym 'Vinyl & Rubber Care' in a hand pump spray bottle and a clean cloth to wipe over & clean off- you can get a matt or a sheen finish depending how long you leave it on after spraying - its really good stuff

Before you do anything, stop by a local auto detail shop and ask what they use.

The mildew that can form on a top can be extremely difficult to remove, but they do make cleaners that will and won't harm the top or the finish on your vehicle.

If it isnt too bad simple green applied full strength works very well and doesnt hurt the material..wash first with a good dish soap, apply simple green and work in with a soft/medium scrub brush..make sure you are in a shaded area.

"Spray nine" will work just fine, especially if it is vinyl. It's available at most automotive stores here in Canada, ie. Canadian Tire, or even most hardware stores, even some grocery store chains, and yes Walmart here in Canada.
