It all started like this
When the calendar was at year 0 a.d., that was the first century. So now we are ar year 2007 a.d., so that would make it the 21st century. It's because we started counting from zero, but the naming started from first century. It makes sense if you think about it.

what century according to the calendar that we go by it is the 21st century. But that is pretty irrilevant because the planet has been here a lot longer then that. it is just mankinds calender and they took time from when what happened to time before our calender started. is that what they call bc which stands for before christ, and is ad meaning after death of christ. that tells me that a time line is based on one religion. .but i guess mankind had to base a calender on something in our case i gues its based on the coming and going of a man.
