1.) A heavy gold locket that opens. Inside is a lock of my great-great-great grandmothers hair and wedding ring. She came from Nova Scotia with her husband and settled in the louisiana area. It has been passed down from generation to the eldest daughter.
2.) 11x13 portrait of my parents and me when I was young 11 or 12 years old. My family grew up kind of poor until my dad started his own business. It was the first professional picture we took as a family when we could afford it.
3.) Family genealogy book. Traces my family all the way back to 1580's. Has lots of pictures. Some are over 70 years old. It was started by an aunt of mine 45 years ago and I continued it.

I only need one item saved. My home made chest. It contains all my passed loved ones pictures and little memory items, like the military flag that was on my brother-n-laws casket. My brothers hair brush he had on him the night he was killed. And Granny's bedroom shoes she had on when she left this world. And the most prized possession of all,The Family Bible. It also has a copy of my will and funeral arrangements in it.

Providing I have 3 boxes, I would put: 1 - all the pictures of my family, 2 - the other pictures on my walls(because they all mean something to me), 3 - all the important papers I have and will need.

Nothing, I have never attached myself to material things, although I have much and many. Worldly baggage slows you down and sometimes even stops you from moving at all. By all means have it and appreciate it , but always be able to leave it when you have to. All that you really need is what is in your heart and in your head.
