On orders from his boss Marcello, the head of the crime family in New Orleans. Marcello, with the help of Cuban agents got the patsy Oswald from the Russians. Marcello's beef with the Kennedy's stemmed from his kidnapping and deportation to Gautemaula. He was under pressure from the Justice Dept., led by RFK.
To seal the link to the Mob, Ruby had to seal Oswald's lips. The then Boss of Bosses, out of Chicago (Giancana) gave the go-ahead for Marcello to carry out the plan. Giancana was still mad about JFK's renigging on campaign promises to stay clear of the Mob. As a favor to JFK's dad, Giancana got JFK elected by manipulating the election machine in Chicago.

There are lots of theories about this and we'll probably never know. However there is quite a connection with the events. One possibility is this. Prior to the assasination of Kennedy it was known that bothr Jack and Robert Kennedy had affairs with Marilyn Monroe and Robert may have had her killed. The man chosen to do this was possibly one who was sent to Cuba to kill Castro but, instead defected. Oswald was fascinated with Cuba and tried to visit but was turned down. It is possible that he was trained by the defector and persuaded to kill Kennedy. Robert Kennedy as head of the FBI would have known all this and if Oswald had lived and talked the whole Kennedy clan could have been implicated in criminal activities. As he probably had contacts with the Mafia if is not impossible that he arranged for Oswald to be killed by Ruby who just before he died in 1967 said 'I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have to.' but would elaborate no further. So the mystery continues.

No one will ever know the reason he did shoot Oswald. I have heard lots of reasons but none really make sense. Maybe he just thought he was helping.

No one knows...thats the problem. Athough it is commonly speculated (amongst conspiracy theorists) that he did it as a mob hit to prevent Oswald from telling everyone he was hired by the mob to kill JFK

I witnessed the shooting live on television also. I too have no idea why J.R. was shot. I have a sneaking suspicion there may have been corruption in Camelot to a degree that, if known, would shock all of us.
