I don't much about other areas of Mexico but i've been to Quetrio it's about 2 1/2 hours north of Mexico City. It's a relly nice city it's clean, fun, and the locals are very friendly. Quetrio is also the 3rd safest city in all of Mexico. Quetrio is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. My husband worked there for 6 months last year and he's fine and has nothing bad to say about it. Hope this helps.
P.S Try to stay away from the resorts that's where all the bad stuff seems to be happening.

I think this would be the same as asking " What is the safest part of the US for travel?" That depends on many, many things.

As with America, I think most large cities have areas that are not very safe. However if you take the usual precautions that you would take here, you should be fine.

I travel to various parts of Mexico every year, everywhere from Tijuana to Guadlajara to small farming towns in central Michoacan. I have NEVER had a problem or feared for my safety, at any time.

The safest place in Mexico would be..Playa del Carmen or Cozumel, which are about 30 minutes away from Cancun, amazing beaches to.

I would be careful ANYWHERE in Mexico these days. Look at the recent violence in Acapulco and other cities. There are also stories of Americans being kidnapped and being held for ransom and the police force is suspect. I would be careful even in place where you walk across the border.

Personally, there are too many nice places to visit in the US so I travel here; Maui was wonderful!

good luck!

Nowhere in Mexico is it safe, not even in a police station, I would pick another destination if I were you.
