We all know that in the US, divorce statistics is at least 50%. I am Asian and have been married for 20+ years and live California. Let's focus on the marrital status and ignore the happiness and staying for the sake of children part. Most of my friends and colleagues, good mix of ethnic background, are married and have never divorced. Have you ever wondered if the statistics is really true from the social circles you are in?

Statistics are (and can only be) based upon the "target group" of the study. In otherwords an X number of married couples were chosen to REPRESENT married couples in the U.S. The study took place over a period of time and out of THOSE couples half of them divorced. So based on the STUDY group 50% of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce because 50% of the marriages in the study group ended in divorce. The information based on statistics is only as accurate and reliable as the information obtained from the study groups and has no actual basis in fact. I have friends on both sides of the marital "fence" some have been married and divorced, some have been married more than once and I have one friend who has never been married frankly I base my opinons on the individuals I know and most of them are married.

I know this is going to be "P" incorrect but I have often seen that education and economics has a lot to do with marriage longevity. So does the type profession. The military has a high divorce rate in the enlisted ranks and low divorce rate in the officer ranks. Why? I think the better educated a couple is as well as the more secure financially the greater the chance of a lasting marriage in today's society. Of course this is not a wrote in stone thing just what I have seen.
