I am finishing high school this year and I am tired of doing things that don't make me happy. From my experience as a student, I realized that I don't like academics (math, science, english, reading, etc.) and I am sick and tired of doing what I hate. I have been putting up with sitting in a desk and learning about things that I honestly don't give a **** about for 12 years. I don't think I can put up with any more of it, and I especially don't want to go to college and do the same goddamn thing again for another 4 years.

The problem is that I want to make a lot of money and I don't know how else to do it besides going to college. Any ideas?

I've been having fun going through your past questions and answers and, son, there is no way you hate learning. You just hate high school, and rightfully so. You already have a very healthy ego, but given that I like what I see, I can affirm that you are highly intelligent, very creative, and a great writer. I almost couldn't believe that you were for real in terms of being a high school senior, but all of your Q & A's are consistent. You are the first young person I've run across on Yahoo Answers who posts so articulately on such a wide array of subjects - and not just opinions (many of them quite witty), but also about science, history and grammar.

I'm a mom with a background in talent development and academic advising. I've still got a daughter in college and I heartily concur with what "Green Booger" wrote in response to your question about finding a certain type of girl: "You will LOVE college." (You should vote her Best Answer.) In your case, I'd say that you don't even have to go to college for the sake of great grades or graduating, because I see in you one of those guys who's going to create the next YouTube or eBay or something and make it big without a piece of paper saying you "learned" something. But someone like you needs to go to college simply because it's going to be the time of your life. All those 12 years were spent waiting for your time to come and college is what you've been waiting for.

There will still be a good number of idiots and giggling girls at college, but you should also find a larger peer group of intelligent and zany guys like yourself. And if you pick the right school, you should also find a lot of really inspiring professors.

Look for a university that values undergraduate teaching in classes where students can interact with their professors. You'd need a school with a wide spectrum of programs so you can sample a few and not be locked into any one college within the university. Above all, find a university where a lot is also happening outside of the classroom in active student organizations, because what you need is some sort of club for future entrepreneurs. A decent-sized town would also be good so that you can spread your wings.

College is not the same as high school, so you won't be doing the same thing. And no one says you have to stay there for 4 years, but I really think you owe it to yourself to give it a chance. And who knows? You may even find yourself becoming a perpetual student who never wants to leave college. I'd love to know where you wind up in 5 years.
