I had never even given consideration to it until reading this excellent question. I see your point 100% they are a nasty pungent little thing, though I take my hat off to the person that was brave enough to try it and class it as a food. They are super yummy, especially the purple ones in a Greek salad or just wrapped in with ham and cheese, rolled in a spring roll wrap and deep fried.
You simply have to try this, it is a splendid little side dish.

ps - use camembert cheese (now I'm sure I spelled that wrong)
